Netflix’s comedy spy series,FUBAR, said I’ll be back, and it wasn’t a lie, because on June 12, the second season was released on the streaming platform (even though it took two years). The high-energy spy series follows the father-daughter duo and legendary FBI agents, Luke (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Emma (Monica Barbaro) Brunner, who, with the help of their team, fight to take down some of the most dangerous villains hiding away in the shadows. Of course, Season 1 ofFUBAR, which was first released in 2023, left the Brunners and their closest friends and family members in an extremely vulnerable position when their identities were compromised, forcing them to hide away in a safe house.
Season 2 introduced the biggest threat to humanity, Dante Cress, who planned to take out the US power grid and cause death in the process. Despite the obvious danger, the Brunners and their team were more than ready to fight whatever came their way,even when the threat included an unhinged yet charming Brit called Theodore Chips (Guy Burnet). Working for one of Dante Cress' minions, Greta, Chips is one of the biggest antagonists inFUBAR, but somehow is also the most likable one, and here is why.

We All Love a Good Villain
Chips was an MI6 agent, and he worked together with his father for many years. Even though he was first introduced as a bad guy working for Greta and Dante Cress, the sight of Emma Brunner left him stunned and replaced his cynicism with desire. His late father’s respectable status in the spy field and their professional connection made him feel closer to Emma. Since she also shared the same job with her father and Luke Brunner is an incredibly well-known name in the field, she understood the desire to live up to expectations and be just as good, if not even better, than her dad.
This isn’t surprising, as the series embodiesclassic Arnold Schwarzenegger energy, and it’s almost impossible to top that. Because of their similar experiences, Chips even opened up about how he tragically lost his father. He explained that he had died for nothing, because the mission that cost Chips' father his life was solely to cover up some wealthy man’s affair. It was difficult not to feel for Chips when he recounted such painful memories, even though the cuffs around his wrists were a reminder that he was still technically an enemy.
However,Chips went on to prove his newfound loyalty when he saved Emma’s mother from certain death after the Swedish mafia tried to kill her in her car. On top of this, he also saved Emma and Luke’s lives when they were stuck in a tank and sitting ducks as a missile was directed at them to blow them up. Thanks to his knowledge, they lived. It doesn’t stop there, because Chips played a huge role in convincing Greta to fight for the good again. During that process, he not only stopped Greta from killing Luke, but he also pushed the rest of the group with positivity. At this point, how could you not love Theodore Chips?

The constant British banter between Chips and Emma, their odd but romantic “dates”, and their understanding of each other even reached a point where some would even go as far as to ship the two spies. Luke wasn’t one of them, of course, but even he saw some connection between his daughter and the spy. In addition to this, it became clear that Luke was genuinely proud of Chips for swapping sides, joining them in their mission of stopping Dante Cress and saving the world.

Theodore Chips is not just a spy; he is a spy with an incredible acting talent. Once the crew in thespy action seriesreached the power plant where Greta was going to follow through with Cress' plan to kill the majority of humanity, the team was only moments away from saving the world and simultaneously capturing the infamous Dante Cress at another location. With the help of Chips, Greta became aware that Luke, who had been her old flame during the Cold War, was still in love with him, and she put her weapons down. Chips is a hopeless romantic, it seems like.
He never stopped complimenting and gushing over Emma, even when they were facing a very real threat of dying. To everyone’s shock, Emma started to think differently of Chips, and there certainly were moments when she arguably considered all the what-ifs.And then he shot an army soldier helping them and turned on them. This shouldn’t have come as a shock, but it somehow actually did. It turned outthat a great TV villainwas right next to them. From sharing a family meal to being vulnerable with each other, Chips did everything to hide his real identity. After all this time,Theodore Chips revealed himself as Dante Cress.

The hit action series is back, and better than ever.
The charming man was gone, and the relentless villain was revealed. Needless to say, the Brit with the banter was much more fun to watch than the guy who hated humanity and wanted to wipe it out entirely. This would make Dante Cress a great contender asa Marvel villain, given that he not only planned to destroy the world but also deceived numerous FBI agents and was always several steps ahead.
Jokes aside,Chips/Cress knew exactly what to do, which seeds to plant, and how to act to achieve his goal of destroying the planet. Luckily, theNetflix original seriesproved that Emma is even more of a badass than any villain out there, because she ended Chip’s life with impressive ease. It’s a shame that Theodore and Emma will never have their romantic happy ending, but Chips is where he belongs.FUBARis available to stream onNetflix.
