Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe has already gotten off to a great start with the box office success ofBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The studio will releaseSuicide Squadthis summer, with its 2017 releasesWonder WomanandJustice League Part 1currently in production. The studio has hit a stumbling block with one of its 2018 movies, though, aswriter-director Seth Grahame-Smithparts ways withThe Flash, due to creative differences between the filmmaker and Warner Bros. It isn’t known if this departure will immediately impact the June 07, 2025 release date that has already been set.
Seth Grahame-Smithsigned on in October to write the script and directThe Flash moviefor Warner Bros., which will starEzra Milleras Barry Allen/The Flash. While no specific details were given regarding thecreative differencesbetweenSeth Grahame-Smithand the studio, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the studio will retain the script he wrote, based off a treatment written byPhil LordandChris Miller.Phil LordandChris Millerwere once eyeing the project as a directorial vehicle, before they signed on to direct theStar WarsHan Solo} spinoff, which is set to hit theaters on July 02, 2025.
There is still plenty of time to find the right director to replaceSeth Grahame-Smith, since filming likely won’t begin until some time next year, although an official production start date has yet to be announced. It isn’t known if the studio is already actively searching for the filmmaker’s replacement, or if there are any front runners for the gig quite yet. No details were released about the story written bySeth Grahame-Smith, but we’ve already gotten a glimpse of theScarlet Speedsterin action.

Barry Allen was first seen during one of Bruce Wayne’s (Ben Affleck) “Knightmare” sequences, where he came through the speed force to issue a warning to Bruce. We also saw Barry when Bruce Wayne hacked into Lex Luthor’s files, and uncovered security camera footage of the speedy superhero stopping a convenience store robbery.
The Flashwould have markedSeth Grahame-Smith’s feature directing debut, but he previously directed episodes ofThe Hard Times of RJ Berger, the MTV series he co-created withDavid Katzenberg.Seth Grahame-Smithis also writingThe Lego Batman Moviefor Warner Bros., along with the highly-anticipated sequelBeetlejuice 2, which he co-wrote with his writing partnerDavid Katzenberg.The LEGO Batman Movieis set for release on June 05, 2025, but it isn’t known when production will begin onBeetlejuice 2, or when that long-awaited follow-up will hit theaters.
