There are still many mysteries surroundingThe Flash, one of which is the identity of the movie’s primary villain. Well, thanks to stunt performerShane Steyn, we now have more clues regarding this question, with an image of a t-shirt from theDCproduction further hinting that the villain will be the alternate version of Barry Allen.

The image shows silhouettes of both Michael Keaton’s Batmanand Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, variant versions of characters who will feature in the alternate universe that Barry Allen lands in after attempting to mess with time. The hints toward the movie’s villain stand alongside the alternate Batman and Supergirl, with a silhouette of what looks like The Flash standing ominously over the other two superheroes. This version of The Flash also appears to have demonic-looking arms and legs, suggesting that the likes of Black Flash or Reverse Flash will appear in the story.

While this is speculation, it’s impossible to deny that there is something monstrous-looking about this version of the Flash. We already know that there will be an alternate version of Barry Allen in the same universe as Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne, and while footage so far has teased the two Barry’s working together, it’s hugely possible that the variant will reveal himself to be the bad guy later in the movie.

For what it’s worth, this also lines up with recent rumors that the alternate Flash will serve as a primary villain in the movie, acting as a “Dark Flash” antagonist to the displaced Barry Allen. WithThe Flashset to take inspiration from the comic book arc,Flashpoint, the evil Barry working his malevolent machinations behind the scenes would neatly take the place of the comics’ villain Eobard Thawne, who carries out a similar plot.

Variant Flash being the secret, surprise villain would also explain why the likes ofThe FlashstarEzra Millerhave played things so coyly when discussing the movie’s antagonist. “In one way, I’d say there’s a few villains, or so-called villains, who are in our movie. And then in another way, I’d say there aren’t any villains in a way that might be part of the exploration and message of the movie,” Miller explained at DC FanDome. “I’m going to say those things because together they make no sense, and it leaves it all kind of cryptic and mysterious. Which is good for a villain to have an air of mystery that surrounds them — until they pop out!”

The Flash Will Also Feature Two Versions of Batman

Alongside the two Barry Allen’s,The Flashwill also have two different versions of Batman. One will be played byMichael Keaton, with the other seeingBen Affleckreturn to the role for the final time. “I have never said this — this is hot off the presses — but maybe my favorite scenes in terms of Batman and the interpretation of Batman that I have done, were in the Flash movie,” Affleck said of his role in The Flash. “I hope they maintain the integrity of what we did because I thought it was great and really interesting — different, but not in a way that is incongruent with the character. Who knows? Maybe they will decide that it doesn’t work, but when I went and did it, it was really fun and really, really satisfying and encouraging and I thought, ‘Wow — I think I have finally figured it out.'”

The Flashis scheduled to be released on August 22, 2025.
