The White Lotusclosed its third season with a shocking karmic bang. The two worst characters in the finale suffered a classic case of what goes around comes around, with Timothy Ratliff outdone by Rick Hatchett for the most sinful character. Before analyzing Tim and Rick’s wicked ways in the finale, it’s time to say goodbye to the other guests who resolved their storylines relatively amicably.
For instance, after petty, shallow in-fighting all season long,Jaclyn, Laurie, and Kate made up with little fuss, realizing that getting older is hard but that they still care for one another. Meanwhile, Zion negotiated with Greg to give Belinda $5 million to keep quiet about Tanya’s murder. While the mother-son duo left the island filthy rich, it wasnot a happy endingfor the others. Worse yet, Rick received the negative energy he put out all season long and paid the ultimate price.

The Ratliffs Narrowly Escaped Death in ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Finale
InThe White LotusSeason 3, Episode 8, “Amor Fati,“Timothy gathers a pile of poisonous fruit (introduced in Episode 1) from the hotel and uses Saxon’s blender to grind up the seeds. He mixes the ground-up poison seeds into piña coladas that he makes for the rest of the family, including himself.
Fully prepared to “drink the Kool-aid,” as it were, Tim plans a mass murder-suicide to kill his family and end his legal troubles. However, believing Lochlan to be the only family member unspoiled enough to livewithout extreme wealth, Tim decides to spare Lochlan’s life and makes him drink a Coke instead.

Although Tim snaps out of it and slaps the glasses away from his family after they take a sip, Lochlan nearly dies after unwittingly mixing a protein shake in the same blender his dad used to make poison cocktails. As such, Tim almost lost the one person he planned on sparing.Up to the finale, Tim has been the second-worst character for lying, stealing, money laundering, and murderous thoughts.
Rick and Chelsea’s Heartbreaking Ending in ‘The White Lotus’
Without a doubt,Chelsea was the most pleasant, positive, and upbeat character all season long. Rick never deserved her in the first place, and she did not deserve to end up with him in their final resting place. Rick, who seemed to have changed for the better after sparing Jim Hollinger’s life, could not appeal to his better angels. He returns to the hotel and reunites with Chelsea, who pours her love and faith into his soul by telling him he is free. “Amor Fati,” she tells him, is aboutlearning to embrace fateno matter what it brings.
Jim and Sritala go to the hotel to take pictures with Jaclyn. Jim confronts Rick, and Jim flashes a gun in his jacket pocket. Jim insults Rick’s mother and father, prompting Rick to stew in anger despite Chelsea’s attempts to assuage his rage. Disconsolate,Rick storms over, pulls the gun from Jim’s pocket, and shoots him twice in the chest. Jim’s bodyguards fire back, accidentally shooting Chelsea in the upper torso.

When Rick tells Sritala he shot Jim because Jim killed his father,Sritala tells Rick that Jim is his father. The shocking revelation comes as Rick tries to save Chelsea’s life. Gaitok arrives and, despite his pacifistic spirit, fatally shoots Rick in the back at Sritala’s request. Rick and Chelsea fall into a pond, and their corpses lie together, Rick facing up and Chelsea facing down.
‘The White Lotus’ Star Reveals Non-Binary Storyline That Was Scrapped When Donald Trump Became President
Actress Carrie Coon explains why Mike White scrapped a trans/non-binary plot point after Trump was elected.
That’s karma. Rick could not escape his tormented soul and destructive spirit. The negative energy he put into the world returned to him with a fierce vengeance, and he lost the only good thing in his life. Chelsea, the yang to Rick’s yin, did not deserve what she received. Her inherent goodness and unwavering loyalty to Rick were punished because of his doings. He had salvation. He had hope. Yet, Rick was too selfish and corrupted to embrace Chelsea’s love and cost them their lives for it.

Angry, unhappy, and mean-spirited from day one,Rick was always the worst character inThe White Lotus' third season. Despite being given every opportunity to atone for his transgressions and walk the healing path of love with Chelsea, Rick could not escape his inner demons. The White Lotusis available to stream onMax.
