The world ofThe Witcheron Netflix will soon be expanded for an upcoming spinoff series on the streaming service. Since debuting last year, the show has been among the most popular of the streamer’s original programming, so Netflix is apparently capitalizing with this new companion series in addition to the main show’s upcoming second season. DubbedThe Witcher: Blood Origin, the live-action limited series will consist of just six parts and won’t be an ongoing series likeThe Witcher.
We shouldn’t expect to see Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia on the new show, because although the spinoff will be sharing a universe with the main series, the show will be taking place in an entirely different timeline.The Witcher: Blood Originwill serve as a prequel series, taking place in an elven world 1200 years before the first episode ofThe Witcher. The series is said to “chart the origins of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘conjunction of the spheres,’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and eleves merged to become one.”
No casting information for theNetflixprequel series has yet been made available. What has been reported is that Declan de Barra (The Originals) will be serving as the series showrunner withThe Witcherauthor Andrzej Sapkowski on board as a creative consultant. De Barra will also be executive producing alongside the parent series' creator, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, along with Jason Brown and Sean Daniel from Hivemind, and Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko from Platige Films.
