Last week, a report surfaced thatTom Hiddlestonwas in “advanced talks” with Eon Productions to take over the 007 role fromDaniel CraiginJames Bond 25. That report was never confirmed, but it did reveal thatTom Hiddlestonhasn’t even received an official offer for the role quite yet, so it may be quite some time before we learn who the new Bond is.Tom Hiddlestonhimself appeared at a convention over the weekend, where he he essentially shot down those rumors.
Tom Hiddlestonappeared at Wizard World Philadelphia this weekend with hisThor: Ragnarokco-starChris Hemsworth, where the moderator teased that he may be announced as the next James Bond. After the raucous applause died down,Tom Hiddlestonbroke the bad news to the fans, although he was grateful for their enthusiasm. Here’s what he had to say below, courtesy of aYouTubevideo from the Wizard World panel.
“I’m sorry to disappoint you, everybody. I don’t think that announcement is coming, but I am very gratified to hear the enthusiasm. There’s not much that I can say, that I haven’t already said, but your guess is as good as mine, to be honest.”
It still hasn’t been 100% confirmed thatDaniel Craigwon’t be returning as007, but it seems to be a foregone conclusion by now. The actor frequently made disparaging comments about the iconic character, and his longtime friendMark Strongeven recently teased thatDaniel Craigis done with the franchise, following last year’sSpectre.Daniel Craigportrayed James Bond in four movies, 2006’sCasino Royale, 2008’sQuantum of Solace, 2012’sSkyfall, the first Bond film to gross more than $1 billion worldwide, and last year’sSpectre.
It was also recently confirmed thatSam Mendeswon’t be back to direct the nextJames Bond movie, after taking the helm for bothSkyfallandSpectre. It isn’t known if Eon Productions currently has a script in development forJames Bond 25, or who may be writing it, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted with more onJames Bond 25as soon as more updates are available.
