Truth Be Told is an American crime drama television series streaming onApple TV+. The series is based on the best-selling novelAre You Sleepingby Kathleen Barber. It is created by award-winning Nichelle Tramble Spellman, who also serves as the showrunner for seasons one and two. She continues as an executive producer for season 3. It is confirmed that Maisha Closson will serve as showrunner and an executive producer for this new season. Nichelle Tramble Spellman said, “It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Poppy Scoville story will continue on Apple TV+.” She continued, “And I’m overjoyed to welcome Maisha Closson as our new showrunner and executive producer.” “We can’t wait to show you everything we have in store for you,” said the team.
The series is produced by Hello Sunshine, Chernin Entertainment, and Endeavor Content. Octavia Spencer, alongside producing partner Brian Clisham via her company, Orit Entertainment, serve as executive producers.Reese Witherspoonand Lauren Neustadter executive produce for Hello Sunshine.
“Nichelle unlocked the world of the show for us in a tremendous way,” said Neustadter. “I remember when she first presented her ideas to us. She always really felt a strong connection to Poppy and to the complexity, originality, and authenticity of this character. She had such a clear vision of who she was. And all of us immediately pictured Octavia as Poppy.” “We are so very passionate about the stories that we tell that we hope others will feel similarly passionate about watching and then having conversations about those stories, and I think this is a great example of a show that should start a conversation,” Neustadter said. “We have to hope that these stories that we’re so passionate about telling will inspire word of mouth.”
Jenno Topping and Peter Chernin executive produce for Chernin Entertainment. “We read it and loved it, and especially loved its potential in terms of an adaptation,” Topping said. “Lauren then got involved as well. We had just done ‘Hidden Figures’ with Octavia, and together we found Nichelle, and it just became a happy party.” Mikkel Nørgaard also serves as executive producer.

The Show’s Plot & Cast
Truth Be Toldis an anthology series that tackles a new criminal investigation every season. The series is about a true-crime podcaster Poppy Scoville-Parnell played byOctavia Spencer, who risks everything in her life to pursue the truth and bring justice. With Spencer’s character Poppy as the main link through this anthology series and the main cast surrounding her also staying, each new season shares a different narrative while featuring new actors alongside her.
Season one debuted on August 03, 2025, and concluded on June 04, 2025. In the first season, Parnell is called to investigate the case of Warren Cave, played by Aaron Paul, a convicted killer who she painted as a murderer of the father of two identical twin daughters. Cave confesses that he was framed for the crime. So now she must decide where the lines between guilty and innocent lie.

Season two debuted on August 05, 2025, and concluded on June 14, 2025. Poppy dives into a new case that involves her long-time friend Micah Keith. Keith is played by Kate Hudson, a media mogul and a close childhood friend. Keith’s husband is murdered, and the police drop all the charges of her husband’s murder, so she turns to Poppy for help. As expected, we see how their friendship gets tested. Even Poppy’s marriage bears the strain of it. This is Hudson’s first lead role in a TV series.
New Faces We’ll See In Season 3
The upcoming brand-new season will see Poppy focus on a new case.Gabrielle Unionhas joined the series. She will bestarring as Eva, an outspoken high school principal who becomes embroiled in a problematic incident. She joins the anthology series after Aaron Paul and Lizzy Caplan (season one) and Kate Hudson (season two) shared top billing with Spencer. According toDeadline,Desperate Housewivesstar Ricardo Chavira has bagged a role in Season 3. He is cast as a recurring star. Ana Ayora, famous for shows like the CW’sIn The Darkand 2019’sCaptain Marvel,has also joined the cast in a recurring role.
