‘The Boys’ Season 5 Set Photos Confirm Another Shocking Storyline

The final season of ‘The Boys’ will feature “Freedom camps” that bear terrifying resemblance to Nazi concentration camps.

A Bloody Murder Mystery Set in the 1950s

During the San Diego Comic Con last summer, whenVought Risingwas first announced, Kripke couldn’t help but hype up fans for the prequel offshoot. The producer explainedthe show’s premise is built around a crazy murder mystery at the center of Vought International’s power-hungry emergence in the 1950s, and the early escapades of Soldier Boy and Stormfront— teasing a “salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V.” Thus, long-time followers of the franchise can look forward to a unique story that doesn’t shy away from all the grit and guts that made the main series so popular.

Unfortunately, no other details about the plot have been revealed at this time. However, viewers have been speculating about possible plotlines related to the series' starring duo, Soldier Boy and Stormfront. It’ll likely dig further into Soldier Boy’s younger days, leading up to being injected with Vought’s Compound V and becoming the first American Supe (and obvious Captain America parody). Considering Vought propaganda claimed he came from humble beginnings before becoming a military hero when he was actually a wealthy child-turned Supe, it’ll be interesting to see howVought Risingexplores his backstory.

Similarly, Stormfront was revealed asa century-old Nazi, so looking into her past presents opportunities to witness her earlier atrocities, as well as introduce her daughter, Chloe, who was born during this time period. Despite her villainy, Stormfront was devoted to her family, so it’ll be interesting to see her in a maternal role.

Hopefully, though, showrunners don’t commit the same mistake as other prequel series that make audiences feel too empathetictowards evil characters. While a well-rounded antagonist is essential for a good story, heavily humanizing monsters like Stormfront, who is a murderous racist with a god-complex, could take away from the pain she caused in the original series and throughout her life. While Stormfront is a layered villain, she is still a villain, like many of its Supes, andVought Risingshould maintain that truth, so audiences don’t forget it.
