In just a few short days,Season 6ofThe Walking Deadwill come to a close withLast Day On Earth, which is perhaps the most highly-anticipated episode in the show’s history. This episode is where fans will finally get to meet the infamousNegan(Jeffrey Dean Morgan), whose entrance in the comic book resulted in the death of a beloved character. While we’ll have to wait until Sunday to see how closely the show follows the comics,Entertainment Weeklyspoke with series starAndrew Lincoln, who teases that Negan has the greatest entrance ever.
“You know… Just get ready, man. Just get ready. I read the script and I went, ‘This is the greatest entrance ever written.'”
In the comics, Negan debuts in the 100th issue, taking Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the rest of his group at Alexandria by surprise, before picking a random person to kill:Glenn Rhee(Steven Yeun), who he bludgeons to death with his baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire dubbedLucille. Naturally, it hasn’t been confirmed yet if theseason finalewill play out exactly the same way as the comics, butAndrew Lincolnhad nothing but praise for his new co-starJeffrey Dean Morgan. Here’s what he had to say, joking that all of his female co-stars are going to “love him.”
“All of the guys were going, ‘Aw, man. I wish I had gotten this guy!’ It’s incredible. Although it’s also kind of unbearable. Norman and I were like, ‘Ugh, all the girls on set are gonna love him.’ He’s just the coolest guy and everybody loves him. Jeffrey’s such a great guy and I’ve been a huge admirer of his since he played the Comedian [in Watchmen] and everything else he’s done. We’re going to have a lot of fun. Honestly, we are so thrilled to have him. We’re lucky people.”
For those worried that Glenn may not live to seeSeason 7,Steven Yeunhimself has teased that Negan’s debut will be much different than his arrival inThe Walking Deadcomic book, but he wouldn’t confirm whether or not Glenn lives or dies. The show has recently altered an iconic death from the comics, with Denise (Merritt Wever) getting killed instead of Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), but that doesn’t necessarily mean Glenn is safe. Regardless of who dies,Andrew Lincolnsaid that Negan may have been the biggest casting decision the show has made, aside from his role as Rick Grimes.
“We’ve been talking about this guy for a long time. It’s probably the most important casting since Rick, really. Everybody needs a hero, but I think they probably need a really good baddie even more. Negan’s incredibly charismatic. In this deranged society, there is a kind of logic to the way that he is running the place. He runs a tight ship, I’ll tell you that much. I’m actually very impressed. I doff my cap to this man!”
We reported last week that theSeason 6 finalehas been extended to 90 minutes, whichAndrew Lincolnteases is “incredibly brilliant,” “tense” and “really dark.” Are you ready to see who Negan will kill in theSeason 6finale ofThe Walking Dead? Do you think it will be Glenn? Or could it be someone completely different, like Glenn’s pregnant wife Maggie (Lauren Cohan)? Chime in with your thoughts, and stay tuned for more on this highly-anticipated episode, airing Sunday, April 3 at 9 PM ET on AMC.
