Who Is Lord John Grey?

The person of interest for a future spinoff is none other than Jamie Fraser’s years-long friend, Lord John Grey. The high-ranking diplomat and English soldier first crossed paths with Jamie when he was merely a teenager, and they only met again when John was already the governor of a Scottish prison, where Jamie was locked up for many years. During this time,Jamie and John grew close, with the latter developing romantic feelings.

When Lord John was given the task of transporting the released prisoners tothe American colonies, he decided to help Jamie out by bringing him to his friends, the Dunsany family, and have him spend his parole there. During his time there, Jamie had a secret illegitimate son, William, with Geneva Dunsany, but when Geneva and her husband died, Geneva’s sister, Isobel, took over.John proceeded to marry Isobel and become William’s stepfather in order to look out for the boy in Jamie’s stead.

As the years passed by, Lord John was of great help to the Frasers. Apart from raising William to become an honorable man and soldier, John also looked out for Jamie’s daughter, Brianna, and was asked by Jamie to take care of his loved ones should anything ever happen to him. John sent out warnings, risking his own life, when Jamie was associated with the rebels, and gifted diamonds to Jamie in order to send Brianna and her family back to her own time and to safety. As should be clear by now,Lord John’s role inOutlanderis always somehow connected to helping Jamie and his family, and, in the process, risking his own life.

Lord John Grey Comes Into His Own in ‘Outlander’ Season 7

If you thought that Jamie and Claire had it rough, Lord John Grey got handed even worse cards in Season 7, and it’s becoming clearer after each newOutlanderepisode that has aired on Starz. The second part of Season 7 has taken fans on a wild ride from worrying about Brianna and Roger’s son Jemmy to being left in the belief that one of the mostimportant characters inOutlanderwas killed off. The historical drama series certainly doesn’t shy away from putting fans through a whirlwind of emotions, and the drama continues to unfold regarding Lord John’s situation.

After everyone thought thatOutlander’s Jamie Fraser had died,Lord John Grey ended up marrying Claire in order to protect her from the gallows as she got herself tangled up in the business of rebels and was caught. The marriage was shorter than the blink of an eye, as Jamie suddenly turned up unscathed and any sort of matrimonial connection between Claire and John was invalid. Even shorter was Jamie’s temper, when his friend revealed that apart from marrying Claire, he also spent an intimate night with her.

Lord John Grey ‘Outlander’ Spinoff

Sony is already set to provideOutlanderfans witha new steamy romance series, but it doesn’t change the fact that there is a particular character inOutlander, that would be perfect for a captivating spinoff series.Outlander: Blood of my Blood, move aside for a second, because Lord John Grey has all our attention.

The fact that John, after everything he had done for Jamie (raising his son, for one), was left to his fate, makes fans empathize with John more than ever before. He has lived his entire life hiding away his true self, only opening up to his closest friend, Jamie, and even risking his own life by taking Claire as his wife to protect her. All of it he did out of love for Jamie. Yet, Jamie left John fighting for himself.

Lord John in Outlander

Lord John’s life is filled with tragedies, pain, highs, and lows, which certainly would be the perfect foundation for one ofthe best spinoffs. His character is far more complex than was revealed once he was first introduced in the long-running historical series. Since Lord John is receiving increasingly more screen time in Outlander’s Season 7, the interest in his past, present, and future is becoming stronger, andLord John’s recent burst of emotions, as he finally started to speak his mind freely, gives some intriguing spice to the character.

A spinoff featuring Lord John’s life would not only allow fans to gain insights into how he leads his life and deals with his feelings for Jamie, butthey would also get the chance to see how Jamie’s biological son, William, grew up. Since William is also becoming a more important character in the new season ofOutlander, especially now that he has found out about his true roots, he would add even more value and excitement to a spinoff.StreamOutlanderon Netflix or Starz.
