To All The Boys, the widely-popular Netflix trilogy starring Lana Condor (Lara Jean) and Noah Centineo (Peter), is getting a new member of the family:XO, Kitty. The spin-off series will follow Kitty (Anna Cathcart), the youngest sister, as she goes on her own adventure across the world. The original films garnered plenty of success, with the third film,To All The Boys: Forever and Always, reportedly watched by 51 million homes. It should come as no surprise that with that kind of success,Netflixwasn’t ready to leave the Song-Covey clan behind yet.
The series will follow Katherine Song-Covey (but you can call her Kitty) as she moves to Korea as part of an exchange program to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend, Dae. Kitty met Dae (Ho-Young Jeon) in the third film of the trilogy, To All the Boys: Forever and Always, when she, her father, and her sisters visited Seoul, South Korea, on spring break. She asked him to take their picture in front of their parent’s lock at Namsan Tower, and then they got to talking. Something happened off-screen because when the Song-Coveys return to the United States, Kitty and Dae are officially an item.

WhileKitty has also been a great source of sass and feminismin the series, audiences haven’t seen her be the star of the show (directly). Here’s everything we hope to see when Kitty arrives in Korea, and on our screens, in the near future.
More Korean Culture
The initial synopsis says thatthe series will follow Kittyas she moves halfway across the world to reunite with Dae (Choi Min-Yeong). The films have previously given glimpses into Korean culture, like Lara Jean and Kitty wearing traditionalhanboksfor Korean New Year in the second installment –To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. With the seriestaking place in Korea and being filmed in Seoul, there are plenty of opportunities to include aspects of Korean culture that weren’t explored in the films.

It’s mentioned that when the Song-Covey clans visited Seoul during year spring break, it was their first time visiting Korea. Viewers got several glimpses of Korean landmarks and food, but Kitty moving there will allow the writers to really explore Kitty learning more about her culture and experiencing it firsthand. Dr. Covey (John Corbett) always encouraged his daughters to participate in cultural activities and made an effort to keep them connected to their Korean family. It would make sense to have Kitty send him pictures of her trying new things and showing her dad how she embraces her heritage, especially since she’s going there on her own.
Kitty’s First Love
Forever and Alwayssaw Kitty show a genuine interest in boys romantically for the first time. She seems to hit it off really well with Dae, making references to a long-distance relationship for the rest of the film and doing things like watching baseball to learn more about him and his interests. With both Margot (Janel Parrish) and Lara Jean off at college and their dad freshly remarried, there is no one else’s love life to focus on besides her own. Kitty is arguably why a (fake) relationship started between Lara Jean and Peter. Her Valentine to their new next-door neighbor Trina (Sarayu Blue) likely started the romantic conversations between her and Mr. Covey.

It would be great to watch Kitty navigate and focus on her own love life instead of the relationships of everyone around her. But don’t let the plot synopsis fool you. She is doing a high school exchange program, so audiences are getting high school Kitty, not college or adult Kitty. The films focused on Lara Jean’s romantic journey with her first boyfriend in high school, and now the series will focus on Kitty’s. However, the two sisters could be considered polar opposites, so even though the same situation is being explored, the same story isn’t being told.
Kitty Being Kitty
Kitty is spunky, with great one-liners, and unafraid of being herself, and that should still ring through in her series. She will be on a new adventure, and hopefully, any nerves or anxiety she has about traveling and living away from home don’t subdue her personality. With Margot to give her advice on going to school abroad and Lara Jean as a go-to for advice on navigating potentially difficult high school relationships, Kitty is in good hands. She has a solid foundation that should encourage her to be herself despite any challenges she faces and should actually encourage her to open up even more.
While we don’t know whenXO, Kittywill hit our screens quite yet, these additions will elevate the series to be the next great installment in the Song-Covey universe.
