We’re a little over three months away from the release of directorZach Cregger’sWeapons, and though little is known about the movie at this point other than that it deals with missing children, Warner Bros. is ratcheting up its marketing campaign in new and creative ways. Case in point: a two-hour surveillance video that was posted to YouTube yesterday that’s labeled as unlisted, meaning it’s hard to find unless you know what you’re looking for.

Warner Bros. posted the surveillance video a day ago to their YouTube channel, and thus far it has amassed 15,000 views. There’s nothing really that striking about the footage, other than that it shows several different children emerging from their homes in the middle of the night. That tracks withwhat little we do know aboutWeapons, which revolves around multi-related plots marked by the disappearance of school kids at exactly 2:17 AM. The only other thing of note in the footage is that at the 2:14:17 mark, you can see what appears to be a man’s face reflected in the screen as he watches the video. It may or may not be Josh Brolin, who stars in the film as Archer Graff, the father of one of the missing children.

Zach Cregger calls ‘Weapons’ a “Horror Epic”

Produced on a budget of just $4 million dollars,Barbarianwas Cregger’s first foray into the horror genre, and what a debut it was. The film quickly drew support from the community for being a fresh idea among a sea of remakes and reboots, which translated to $45 million at the box office and massive streaming numbers. But whileBarbarianwas a more intimate film, Cregger recently calledWeaponsthe complete opposite, noting to Entertainment Weeklythat it’s a “horror epic” on a grand scale.

“This is an epic. I love that movie. I love that kind of bold scale. It gave me permission when I was writing this to shoot for the stars and make it an epic. I wanted a horror epic, and so I tried to do that. It is more ambitious in almost every way. I don’t just mean in terms of the budget, but I just mean creatively. The story is weirder and it’s twistier and it’s bigger. I have way more actors to fit into this thing. The set pieces are definitely bigger. It’s just a bigger, weirder movie than Barbarian is.”

Needless to say, our interest is definitely piqued, so it will be fun to see what else Warner Bros. can come up with over the next three months to help market the release ofWeapons. Look for it to hit theaters on August 03, 2025, and you can either rent or purchaseBarbariannow on all VOD platforms.
