First, there wasSharknado. Now, there isZombie Tidal Wave. SyFy has announced the upcoming movie which, as the title implies, will be bringing us a literal tidal wave full of zombies. Ian Ziering, who headlined theSharknadofranchise, is set to star and produce the movie. Anthony C. Ferrante, who directed all six movies in the shark-centric B-movie franchise, reunites with Ziering and will helm the undead disaster flick.
According to an announcement from SyFy,Ian Zieringwill not only star in the movie, but he’s also producing through his own I.Man Productions. Darby Parker is also producing via Stronghold Entertainment. The SyFy original title is set to debut as part of the network’s Off The Deep End weekend on Saturday, August 17 at 9 p.m. The weekend will consist of shark-themed programming and will also include all sixSharknadomovies in its lineup, as well as other titles such asSharktopus vs. PteracudaandDam Sharks. Ziering had this to say in a statement.
“Zombie Tidal Waveoffered the opportunity to see my original concept through to release, it is incredibly satisfying to be a creator and work in all facets of the process beyond my contributions as an actor. Darby and I want to continue to curate more projects together in this hands-on manner, and I can’t wait to bring more of my acting and directing peers, and new production partners, along with us.”
The movie filmed in Krabi, Thailand. The hope, on everyone’s part, is that this will be just the first of many movies in a series of movies about zombie-filled tidal waves. TheSharknadoseries, which kicked off in 2013, ran for a total of six entries, concluding with last year’s Sharknado: It’s About Time. If SyFy can get six movies out of a concept like that, surely they can do the same for a natural disaster movie about the undead.
Zombie Tidal Wavecenters on Hunter Shaw (Ian Ziering) as he contends with an ocean-borne outbreak that threatens his otherwise peaceful seaside island community. This rogue, veteran sailor must lead a disparate group of locals in order to uncover the origins of theundead pandemic, while simultaneously fighting the rising horde of infected before it can reach the mainland.
The story was cooked up by Ian Ziering and Thunder Levin. Darby Parker,Anthony C. Ferranteand Josh LeBlanc penned the screenplay. Ziering, who formerly starred onBeverly Hills, 90210as Steve Sanders, become an unlikely B-movie action star when he headlined the firstSharknado. The actor admitted he was initially reluctant to take on the gig, but did so to keep his insurance through the Screen Actors Guild union. If this latest venture pans out, that may have proved to be the best decision of his career. Low-budget as they may be, not many actors can say they’ve headlined two successful franchises.
